algae in my salt water tank

I am new to saltwater and I have been noticing that I have a light brown algae growing on my glass and I cant get rid if it. Is this normal or do I have a problem

hi..algea has always been one of the main problems with a saltwater setup.
firstly have you a protein skimmer?this helps with reducing nitrates and phosphates(both of which promotes algea.)

secondly a clean up crew of turbo snails and crabs are great for eating algea.

and yes the brown algea is always the first to appear,it is normal.

you will have brown algea for some time, its part of the cylcing of a new saltwater tank. Please don't put in any fish yet. Just add a clean up crew and be sure to watch your water quality.
You can also decide not to use hermit crabs, you can many different kinds of snails that will do a much better job, the reason I say this is because the crabs over time will kill the snails.

Another good way to eliminate a lot of your algea woes, is to us an RO, it is a water purifier, it is by far one of the top things for a saltwater tank, it makes your life a lot easier.
