Oscars are realy messy fish so at adult size I would reccomend for the BEGINNER one oscar in a 55 gallon tank and 2 in 75 gallon tank.
Ph should be slightly alkaline but they can handle a range between 6.5 to 7.8 as long as its constaint.
Temperature should be a constaint 78f (26C)
Filteration should be enough to be turning over the tank at around 10 to 12 times an hour.
Do not use under gravel filters with oscars as oscars like to dig and will render the filtering process of a UGF usless.
There is some debate on this subject but the majority of people with oscars and other cichlids that dig simply dont use them.
Water changes depend on how much you feed them, the size of the tank and amount of filteration. I normally like to do a water change of 10 to 15% twice a week and vaccum one a week. You can however do it once a week at around 12% or once a fortnight at around 25% with a good vaccumm. I would however reccomend not going any longer than a fortnight with water changes
