Is overstocking the only way of stopping aggression?

Im currently looking at getting a cichlid setup. I'm new to cichlids although Ive kept tropical fish for over 10 years.

Ive been told I need to overstock to cut down on aggressive behaviour but I can only really commit to one water change a week as we have a baby on the way.
I was thinking if I just stock one type of cichlid - maybe convicts, one male and a quite a few females would this work?

I've got a 40 gallon tank (46 us gallons) or 180 litres. Its a jewel rio 180.

I would like a variety of colours etc but I'm willing to sacrifice this for an easier maintenance schedule.

Ive already added plenty of rocks with large holes and some coral gravel.

I would be grateful for any advice.

Hi Sarah,
Sorry we've been too busy lately so just catching up, would love to hear what you ended up going with. I would agree with you on keeping some convicts if you have a busy life.
I personally don't like using overstocking as a solution to dispersing aggressive behavior so it doesn't hurt any one particular fish too much. It doesn't always work, you might still end up with some fish getting on the receiving end of too much abuse and dying.
