Convicts had babies and now all of the fish are dying

My husband started getting cichlids about a month and half ago. They seemed to be doing great in the tank until the convict cichlids decided to have babies, which was an unpleasant surprise. The parents started attacking all of the other fish, which didn't seem to be that big of a deal. But then we noticed a bunch of junk hanging from the plants (maybe from the eggs?) and little by little the fish started swimming at the top of the tank and one by one they've started dropping off. I haven't noticed anything unusual on any of the fish other than one we already had - he got the cotton-eye but he's literally the only one. My husband is determined that it's because of the babies that all of this happened; I think there is something else going on - maybe a fungus or something. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this after babies were hatched, or anyone else have suggestions?

U need to do a water change and clean the filter on the tank ASAP.. Even thou this tank has been running for over a month, do a tank cleaning and do the filter too.. DO not go OVER 1/2 of your tanks water!! This is very important..

also convicts will KILL all others in the tank regardless of size.. so U need to get another tank for the OTHERS and let the cons have this one if it is not to big, say under 29gal.. IF bigger, then take the others out to a bucket with their tank water and THEN catch and remove the cons/babies all 200+ if U can to another bucket/container or to another tank just for them.. USE some gravel/deco and 1/2 of the main tank water for the new tank so U dont' get a hard cycle..

IF the tank is about a 55gal then get a divider and keep them on one end. this wil help the others in the tank until U can relocate the convicts..

I know, pain to deal with but if U like your others with the cons, then U need to do some tank cleaning and find another home for them ASAP.

Anytime U get a pair of american cichlids with others, all others in the same tank will be killed.. Convicts are the worst but BEST parents U can have. just not with others.. LOL..
