I know I said books of any type or on any subject, but I'm going to be boring and mention a book on fish. Just picked up a copy of the 2nd edition of Ad Konings's Back to Nature Guide to Malawi Cichlids. Just acquired a few of these fish for the first time, so figured I ought to at least have some minor baseline of knowledge. Seems pretty good. The author gives some good background info, and then a section of specific profiles. This book addresses one of my pet peeves -- namely that for years even the best books on tropical fish had relatively few color plates, and usually in a separate section from the information. Being in the publishing field, I understand the technical/financial reasons for doing this, but it's always been an irritation. This book is in full color throughout, and the profiles and photos are pretty much all right with one another. Some great photos, by the way. Not cheap, but a good reference tool. Thumbs up! (I wonder if that expression is copyrighted now,)
