Gosh U know how it is, time for a change.. I like to redo my tanks when and as the cichlids grow AND OR I hve the rock and plants to do so.. U dont' have to have the same looking tank month by month!! U can redo the tank without disturbing the substrate in most cases.. Unless U want to change out the substrate them U are doing a complete tear down and U best NOT have anything to do the whole day!! Best to clean the tank first and leave in 1/2 of the tanks water.. IF U are doing a complete tear down U need to reuse as much as the old deco as U can.. This help build up your bio in the tank after u add in ALL new.. Here are a few of my tanks that I redid the last few months.. Both are 55gal..
A grow out for Ps. Polit, Ps Saulois, Yellow tail Acie, OB Peacocks, dolphin juvies..

IT used to look like this:

My newest redone tank that I really like. My Hybrid tank.. Strawberry Peacock and a group of blue/white blotched to white bodied Zebras from 2 species of Zebras..

The tank used to look like this as they were smaller and did not need to much in:

So as U can see, U can redo a tank, just with different and MORE rock to plants to NO fake plants if that is what U want in it.. JUST remember, MORE rock means less water.. That last 55gal is more lie a 48/50 gal now.. But it is a nice tank!! I think so anyway and the cichlids are having a great time in all the new rock places!!
