Eggs!

Did a swap last week-end.  Moved my Escondido pair from a 55 into the big tank, and transferred my Pollenis (now clearly a pair) from the big tank to the 55.  Five days later, we have Polleni eggs!  We'll see what develops.  I'm told that these tend to eat their eggs, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now...

Wow, I hope they dont' eat them!! neat cichlids to have.. That sure was fast on the courtship!! some cichlids dont' waste any time.. I hope they do good for U Dan.. Have U ever noticed that they like to spawn more when it is winter time?? Mine are all like spawning away right now!! I dont' even have my tanks heater set high...
I want some, O my theirs that word "WANT"!! a pair of Archocentrus sajica, or known as T-bar cichlids.. Some others have them and I love the colors and they dont' get big, only at 5" so they would do fine in a 55 gal..  AND I like those Geophagus "tapajos Orange heads too but gosh!! I would need more tanks  and I am worn out with the ones I have now.. So ONE or the other would be nice to have anyway!!

Hi, Barb!  Yes, mine are "in the mood" as well.  The chocolatesare really flirting!  Her more than him, really.  The Uarus are guarding a rock (chomped my arm pretty well the other day!).  I think the time in the 210 with the other fish solidified the pair bond with the pollenis.  They were hanging out together a lot before I moved them.  If these guys hatch and grow out I'll keep some aside for you.  Am presently growing out a few Sajicas as well -- I'll let you know how that goes.

Nope. They spawned twice, and ate the eggs both times. I'll be more "proactive" next time.

Do you have a light on 24/7 or is it completely dark in tank at night?

Did you notice when the eggs got eaten? I had a theory that sometimes when it's totally dark at night in tank, they kind of "forget" about their eggs, and lose that connection saying "oh yea keep hovering over and protecting these", instead of eating them So I was thinking it might be better to have some kind of light on so they don't lose sight of the eggs etc...

Not sure. It's possible, but I'm not around the house enough to really pin it down. These guys are more nocturnal than my other cichlids. They become pretty active just after the lights go out, and also pre-dawn.

Well, I came up with this theory based on my oscar observations so might not translate to these the same way, but good luck next time
