6 gallon tank

Hi all,

I've had tanks of many sizes thru the years, but now I'm stuck with a 6 gallon tank due to space limitations. Its an Eclipse from Marineland.

Most of my experiences were with larger fish.. Is there any fish that will do well in this setup? Thanks..

For size its prety small, so that would limit it to smaller fish. I would say that tank would make a great home for a male beta.
Other wise a couple guppies (if there is such a thing) or a couple neon's. Your pretty much stuck with the small tropical fish. There might be some louches (spelling) or algy eaters that may work in that tank. I am not an expert on salt water, and yours might be too small for a reef tank. This is just few thoughts from me on fish for it.

Thanks for the response. I've tried guppies..they bred so much the tank quickly became overcrowded. Right now the only thing in the tank are tiny snails. I love those for algae control. Possibly a couple of cory cats?

why don't you try just male guppies or as suggested earl;ier a single male betta I'm sure he would love a 6 gallon after being kept in a small plastic cup at the store for who knows how long. I used to have 2 bettas in 2 one gallon tanks but a few months ago I moved them to a 10 gallon with a divider and I've noticed that they seem to enjoy it alot more than their 1 gallon homes. They have more space to swim freely and show off their coloring alot more.

Guppies wouldn't be very happy with just males in the tank. The betta is not a bad option. I saw an eclipse, one of the coowners/moderators here has. Its loaded. Coldwater tank with plants. Really looked good.

Hey all,

Thanks for the suggestions. I picked up two plants and a male betta. The salesman called it a lyretail betta. The tail is definately a lyre.. Its a deep blue. I was also told it would pretty much just hang at the top but he's swimming all over the tank. He wasn't in a bowl but in a very small plastic container hanging on the inside of a tank. Barely room to turn around. Looks like my 6 gal. will be a nice switch for him.

I had bettas and they died.. OF all the fish I try to save daily, I can not keep the bettas alive, they do stay in bigger glass jars by my computer but only last for a few months... So I dont' buy them any more.. As for you getting the lyretail that is cool that he is going to have a 6 gal to his self.. Beautiful fish but not for me!!

The ones I used to never have any luck with are the neon or cardinal tetra. I'm told they are easy but... This is the first betta I've ever had.

My previous experiences were with bigger fish in bigger tanks. I kept an oscar for a very long time. That one ate out of my hand. . Just something this fish seemed to know how to do. I also had a fire eel that would swim up and take an earthworm from me.

I've often admired betta's and am tempted to get one myself. Whats a bubble nest? Do they all make them? Any advise on how to keep them etc?

Hi,

All male bettas blow bubble nests. They come up to the surface and just blow a bubble in a certain area..They keep doing that until that area is covered with enough bubbles to hold the eggs that the female lays.
With male bettas..one to a tank.

I have bettas again.. just really like to see them above my computer.. 2 now in gallon vases I guess they are.. seems they are doing great.. I change the water out every 5 days to regular tank exchange water already mixed.. A red one and a blue one with some red in him.. And they do blow bubble nests.. natural instinct for them to do so.. not that I want 100+ bettas anytime soon!!  Bettas are easy to keep, NO filters, NO air pumps.. just clean water and feed them 4-5 small betta pellets a day..  I dont' have a good pic but wil post one soon...

Ok here they are.. I did place a back ground on them as they are by pics and HARLEY Davidson piggies I have collected..
this one has an extra interesting vase just in case I come across a WHITE Betta..

Cool pics of those betta's Barb! didnt realise they didnt need air pumps etc guess they have lungs, My bf really likes these fish guess I'll be buying him a vase lol. Every time we go to my lfs he looks at them, but he doesnt quite understand why we cant keep one with my cichlids lol. Not to mention the fact that if my cichlids didnt kill him my rtc would eat him!
