There are a couple of salt treatments, and variations on them. One is a short (30 minute) bath in a solution of 3 ounces of salt per gallon of water.
Another is the old progressive salt treatment:
Day 1: 1 Teaspoon of salt per gallon of water
Day 2: 1 additional teaspoon of salt per gallon
Day 3: 1 additional teaspoon of salt per gallon
Continue this until you reach a cumulative total of 6 to 8 teaspoons per gallon. Bear in mind that some species are more sensitive to salt than others. For instance discus and tetras can only tolerate 3-4 teaspoons per gallon, while mollies can live comfortably in full marine conditions.
On about the ninth or tenth day, start reducing the salt concentration by partial water changes. Do this over a period of several days so that your fish aren't forced to adjust too suddenly.
Epsom salts can be used instead of sodium chloride, and may be a better choice in some cases, such as constipation.
