I don't recomend aluminum foil.  When I used to have just a 10 gallon my cuz and I put some aluminum foil on the back and the temp sky-rocketed to like almost 90 degrees! Poor, Poor guppies. Tough little things. I still have one of those gups.  I'll reiterate my point, ALUMINUM FOIL MAKES THE TEMPERATURE GO UP AND UP AND UP!!!!

I haven't noticed it much.  Was there any other things that may had influenced it?  Hot lights?  Sunlight/heat source that transferred to the aluminum and the aluminum transfered it to the tank?

I will keep a sharp eye on my temp.  I am using it as a cheap background while I let the algae build up and will remove it later.  It seems to stop growing after a certain amount of time, but seems to grow well on the parts I try to keep scraped clean!!!  It is so cool the Emperor 400 comes with a little cleaning brush, it makes it so much easier cleaning!!!  Too bad they didn't give an angled brush too ...

I love those 3D backgrounds, but I don't feel like making one myself and don't want to spend the money on one.  I saw one in a running tank at a LFS, but didn't see any for sale.

I have those 3D pics on mine.. All 13 tanks.. I like the ones that have a double background pic.. That can change your tanks appearance with out buying new..

At the moment i prefer solid coulor dark blue which fades to black at the bottom it gives a good depth perseption, makes the water look clearer too ive found, However my plec does not clean the glass on that side as well as the rest of tank, which is spottless.
