My new Ptyochromis salmon!

I got really lucky in an auction in an Aquar. club, got one male and two females for really cheap!! They are lake Victorian basin cichlids.. They are neat. the male mostly.. He colored up within 5 min of being in the tank. In the bag, they stress so he looked like the females. Nice to see he likes his new home, a 29gal..

Here is more info on them and I cant' wait for his stripes on his face to show up..
so according to this, they eat snails. wel I hve some but are they the right ones? they are eating omega one sinking right now and they really like them. Shells too? got that too!! I may hve to place some in the tank and see how they do with them.

WEll I missed a lot of spawns with these guys as I had others that spawned more so their fry took up all my spare tanks.. I did however get some in earily march, 11 fry, then 17 more later the next week.. so they are all in this small 5gal hex as it is all I had. ON my fire place of all places to be, but by the 35gal hex.. They are going into a 15gal come next week when the goldfish get out so OTHERS can take over their 55gal tank to growout more.. Ah the hardship and joys of fish keeping:

You know when you said fireplace, I was like , ah why didn't I think about keeping my tanks right next to fireplace to save on the electric bill i remember those 300W heaters took their toll!

Funny.. that is not why they are their, just no where solid to place them at.. My kitchen counters are few so this was better.. It is a temp deal, or so I told the hubby,, cough, cough..

But the two females are holding again, (stripping them today) so guess what!? They are going in this tank as soon as I get the goldfish OUT and move some juvies to their REALLY, REALLY CLEANED tank and move MORE fry, X-mas Fulu and rubes peacock fry from a 15gal to the 29gal they left for the 55, AND THESE to the 15 tall. I have some OB peacocks fry that are going in with them, right now in a ice cream bucket I use for a week with new fry, YES an 5 qt ice cream bucket! works. I can id them from the silvery fry of a salmon hippo point fry/juvie later on..

I have MORE CICHLIDS, Hongi, julies, emperess others coming in from NY from a friend and NO where to place them right now. so I told him to WAIT until I can get the golds out, NEXT WEEK by wed I hope, then send them.. I get to send him some too!!

Gosh. And I wanted "A" fish tank!! LOL..

No Oscars, but the midas would make short work of them I am sure!!

BUT be nice now. what would I put in the pond??

U know, they are stil in side!! Darn it, the nite time temp needs to be above 65F.. the pond is at 54F and that is way to cool right now. figures.. so I hve not moved anyone yet!! My Ice Cream fry are going to grow up in "vanila favor" if this keeps up with the cool weather.. LOL!!

yea, where's global warming when you need it eh? I confess I let my oscars loose on many goldies...i forget, 'ain't' anywhere near tennessee or 'them flooded parts are ya?
it's been warming up in socal, pretty warm day today...actually very nice..

NO I am in the GREAT state, Cough, cough, of OKLAHOMA!! Stuck here is more like it..
30 miles for Oklahoma City.. give or take..

Been kind of warm here too 80F+ and up but today, it is like BURR with highs in the upper 50! talk about a change!!

We just dodge Tornadoes when they come around!! Getting some ground shaking thou, but NOT at my house, but about 50 miles away. close enough. Ppl in that town with tanks can't keep glass ones anymore. they kept breaking seals!! And these earth quakes were not more than 3.3 and under. Scary indeed for MTS!! Glad I am were I am at. Kind of.. LOL..

oh, ouch, so now you have to watch out for earthquakes on top of the tornadoes! (My tanks went through a couple earthquakes in California but all were fine, but then the big ones were all plexi not glass, 55gallon was biggest glass one) If its already over 80F, how hot do summers get where you are?

I dont' feel the quakes here thou, they are like 50 miles away.. they would have to be 5.0 and up to get here I would think. I cringe thinking about my tanks cracking if one does happen strong enough here!

WE dodge Tornadoes this last monday thru Wed! the storm brewed around us then 10 min later, droped some 5 miles away!! WE got golf ball size hail, (see pic) but other places got grapefriut size!! went through roofs and into their home!! OUCH for sure!!

In the summer, it can get to 100F really fast in July and Aug.. WE are nice and cool right now with all the rain, low 60F.. WE were in the 80 when the storms came through Monday that clashed with a cold front which started the tornadoes that did a lot of damage here in Oklahoma..

Hippo fry are getting big fast, as they are not big cichlids to begain with, but they are all 40+ coming along fine.. I have others to place in the 15gal with the older ones I just needed them to get bigger.. Luckily the parents are not holding at this time!! LOL on keeping that going! Even the OB peacocks are being ,,,,, good..

I found a 20+ gal with hood/light/ pos. filter for 15.00 and am getting it tonite!! don't know where I am going to place it, I hope it will fit the 20 gal tank stand and just remove the 15 tall. wont' know unil I get it.. IF not, well, I am pretty good at making a stand. well see how this goes!!
