Virgin Mary or Hermaphrodite?

I bought my daughter some fish in July of 2010. What we have left are 2 angelfish, a black tetra & a yellow ?electric cichlid. The Cichlid had to be separated right from the start because he was eating the fins off of my angelfish & ate just about every fish that I have put in with him. The guy that sold me the fish didn't tell me that they weren't compatible with most other fish. Now he has been by himself since August of 2010. May or June of this year, no later than that, I put him in with my angelfish for about a week until I bought a larger tank & got it set-up. We looked in his tank last night & noticed 2 babies. He had a complete tank change on August 2 & we didn't noticed anything different. He spent the whole day in a fish bowl. Could he be a hermaphrodite & impregnated himself or could her eggs have been inseminated by one of the other fish that I have? I'm really confused!

Quite interested, sorry I missed this post, I'm curious if you figured out whose fry those two came from! (ie was it really from the yellow electric cichlid or the others, or eggs that hatched laid by mysterious aliens...)
